Study Participation

As part of our research, we regularly conduct empirical studies. Whether you are curious about our research or are doing subject hours as part of the Computational Social Systems master's program (or for your psychology minor), we welcome your interest in and support for our research.

On this page, we have summarized key information about our studies and how you can participate.

What types of studies are conducted?

We develop very different studies depending on the research question we are pursuing.

  • Some of our studies are laboratory studies in which you interact with another person, a computer program, or a robot, for example. It could also be that we ask you to test a new app. These studies are conducted in one of our lab rooms at Theaterplatz 14 in Aachen. For this, we will make an individual appointment with you.
  • We also conduct online studies in which you fill out a questionnaire, for example. You can also participate in these studies from home. For most online studies, no appointment is necessary. You can then access the study directly via the link and participate.

Do I need prior knowledge?

For our studies, you generally do not need any prior knowledge or skills with robots or other technology. For our research, it is particularly valuable to involve as diverse a range of people as possible. That way, we can learn from the different perspectives you bring to the table. If prior experience is necessary after all, then this will be clearly stated in the study call text.

If you are unsure, please feel free to ask the contact person of the respective study for any questions.

Which studies are taking place and how can I participate?

In this table you will find an overview of our ongoing studies. Please note the "Requirements" column, as we are looking for specific participants for some studies. For all studies, you must be of legal age.

Covid-19 hygiene measures

Currently, our laboratory studies take place only under strict hygiene procedures approved by the university.

All individuals wear mouth-to-nose coverings and maintain a minimum distance of 1.5m at all times. Means for hand disinfection are available. Only one subject is in the building at a time. After each participant, the lab room is shock-ventilated and all surfaces are disinfected.

For contact tracking purposes, we record – separately from your experimental data – your contact information and destroy it after 4 weeks. If you have any symptoms of illness, please cancel your appointment.

If you have any questions about the measures, please contact the contact person of the respective study.
