Astrid Rosenthal-von der Pütten is a Full Professor and director of the group Individual and Technology at the Department of Society, Technology, and Human Factors at RWTH Aachen University. She is affiliated with the Human Technology Center, HumTec for short, at RWTH Aachen University.


Her research interests include social effects of artificial entities, human-robot interaction, linguistic alignment with robots and virtual agents, presence, and communication in social media.

Personal Background

She received the B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Applied Cognitive and Media Science from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, in 2007 and 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in psychology from University of Duisburg-Essen in 2014. From 2009 until 2017, she worked in the department Social Psychology: Media and Communication at the University of Duisburg-Essen, first as a doctoral and later as a postdoctoral researcher. She was a PhD fellowship holder of the German National Academic Foundation for her work on the uncanny valley hypothesis and a recipient of two outstanding PhD thesis awards. She is an alumna of the Global Young Faculty.
